It’s Ballin’ With an “N” (Short Film)

Overview

For my diploma project, I created a comedic short film titled It’s Ballin’ With an “N”, inspired by my time in the USA and the wild, humorous interviews I experienced. The film captures the essence of awkwardness, comedy, and the overly serious tone of interviewers in a quirky, exaggerated scenario.

Synopsis

The story follows Alex, who accidentally includes ChatGPT instructions in her job application cover letter. This mistake leads to a bizarre interview at a peculiar start-up, where she encounters Oscar, the eccentric CEO, and Leonard, the unpredictable interviewer. The interview becomes increasingly absurd with a series of wide-ranging, ridiculous questions. Just when Alex thinks it can’t get stranger, Oscar praises her cover letter mistake as a stroke of genius. While initially excited about the job, Alex soon questions whether she wants it at all. After leaving the chaotic interview, she receives a notification: she got the job.

Process & Approach

This project was one of the most challenging I’ve undertaken. With limited time, I managed every aspect of production, from writing the script and storyboarding to scouting locations and coordinating the actors. I directed the film, handled actor management, and oversaw the shooting process. Afterward, I edited the film and color-graded the footage to achieve the desired aesthetic. Despite the pressure, I was able to deliver a film that balanced humor, awkwardness, and surrealism.

Achievements & Impact

Completing this project under tight time constraints was a huge accomplishment. It allowed me to refine my skills in both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking, from script development to post-production, and provided valuable experience in leading a project from concept to completion.
